action

While camping in the woods, old Harry tells his grandchildren about his life: In 1913, as a child, he mourned his deceased mother while he and his father took part in an expedition to the west of Canada. So far his father had been a globetrotter instead of worrying about Harry; now he wants to catch a grizzly bear with him using newly developed tranquilizers. When a she-bear is sighted, however, her capture fails; only their offspring can be hunted. The then furious mother bear kidnaps Harry.

Harry soon discovers the actually gentle nature of the she-bear, whom he names Mizzy; she's a bit grouchy about that. On his journey with the she-bear he gains self-confidence and discovers many new sides to himself, while his exhausted and wounded father torments himself not only physically through the woods. The rescue operation that was carried out to free Harry and the survival of his father brings a happy ending.

criticism

“A psychologically oriented animal and youth film, which, however, suffers from its erratic actions and wooden dialogues. The animal scenes are convincing and will cast a spell over a young audience, ” writes the lexicon of international films

Unconvinced Maitland McDonagh: "Parents who are desperate for clean entertainment will find it here, but that doesn't mean the movie is entertaining."
