Munich shines

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The medal Munich shines (actually, Munich shines - the friends of Munich ) is an official honor for special services to Munich, awarded by the Bavarian capital, Munich .

The medal has been awarded in gold, silver or bronze to personalities, politicians, volunteers and other particularly deserving Munich residents since 1961 . Honorary and professional members of the city council , chairmen and members of district committees , the senior citizens' council and the foreigners' council as well as members of the volunteer fire brigade , school path assistants and chairmen of the vocational school councils , the parents' councils at elementary and special schools, secondary schools and grammar schools receive the award after a certain number of years of service.

In January 2009 the medal Munich shines was awarded for the first time and exceptionally in "Blech" (to the Ensemble Blechschaden ). According to Lord Mayor Christian Ude , who presented the award, this execution does not represent a further gradation in the value, but was done due to the special consideration of the artistic self-image of the ensemble in question.

The saying Munich shines goes back to Thomas Mann's novella Gladius Dei . In it comes the sentence Munich shone. in the context of an ironic examination of the art city of Munich. The saying Munich shines, on the other hand, which is now also used in reports and advertising, expresses pride in the city of Munich - without any ironic undertone.
