Heinrich Hugendubel

Heinrich Hugendubel (born June 3, 1936 in Munich ; † April 7, 2005 there ) was a German bookseller and managing director of Hugendubel . The great-grandson of the founder and bookseller Heinrich Karl Gustav Hugendubel is considered to be the inventor of the book department store . He expanded the small family business into the largest independent book retailer in Germany.

Career

After studying and training as a bookseller, he joined his great-grandfather's bookstore, which had been in existence since 1893, in 1964 and took it over from his mother in 1966. In 1979 he was the first bookseller in Germany to open a book department store on Marienplatz in Munich , where customers can leaf through books on reading islands. Buying books should be an experience. In the following years he opened further branches in Bavaria and Hesse ( Frankfurt am Main ), and in the 1990s in Brandenburg , Berlin , Saxony and in North Rhine-Westphalia .

Succession

Heinrich Hugendubel's children Nina and Dr. Maximilian Hugendubel, who has been part of the management since 2003, will continue the company's business.
