Christiane Thalgott (born von Wallenberg Pachaly) (born May 1, 1942 in Breslau ) is a German architect , urban planner and construction officer .

education and profession

After graduating from high school in Hamburg in 1961, Thalgott first learned the profession of interior decorator . From 1964 she studied architecture at the Technical Universities of Braunschweig and Munich . After completing her studies in 1971 and briefly doing a scientific job in the field of rural construction and settlement, she worked as a city planner from 1972, first in the construction department of Norderstedt , then from 1987 as a city planning officer in Kassel . From February 1992 to May 2007, Thalgott was Uli Zech's successor as town planning councilor in Munich, head of the city planning authority there and, from 1994, chairman of the supervisory board of the Munich Society for Urban Renewal. Her successor as town planning councilor is Elisabeth Merk .

During her time as City Planning Councilor in Munich, important urban development decisions were made, including plans for the reconstruction of the main station, the expansion of the Middle Ring with new tunnels, the reconstruction of the Schrannenhalle and the construction of the Jewish Center and the neighboring Angerhof office building with the associated redesign of the St.-Jakobs-Platz and the surrounding streets.

In addition to her work as a municipal civil servant, Thalgott took on teaching positions at the University of Kiel (1985 to 1987) and the Technical University of Munich (from 1996), which she appointed honorary professor in 2003. In 2000 she joined the board of trustees of the newly established “Lebendige Stadt” foundation , which is related to the shopping center developer ECE . From 2003 to 2007 Thalgott was President of the German Academy for Urban Development and Regional Planning (DASL) .

Thalgott was elected as a new member of the architecture section at the spring general meeting of the Berlin Academy of the Arts on May 25, 2013. She is one of the initiators of the “Munich Call for a Different Land Policy” initiative.
