Elisabeth Merk (* 1963 in Regensburg ) is a German architect and urban planner .

Merk has been Christiane Thalgott's successor to the City of Munich's City Planning Council since 2007 and heads the Department for Urban Planning and Building Regulations. She completed a degree in architecture at the Regensburg University of Applied Sciences . She then worked as a freelance in the field of architecture and monument preservation, passed her state examination at the University of Florence , where she obtained the title Dottoressa in Architettura. From 1995 to 2000 she was responsible for urban design, the preservation of urban monuments and special projects in Munich and Regensburg. Then she was head of the urban development and planning department in Halle (Saale) .

Elisabeth Merk has been Professor of Urban Development and Urban Planning at the Stuttgart University of Technology since 2005 and President of the German Academy for Urban Development and Regional Planning (DASL) since 2015 . In addition to her role as an assessor in the Advisory Council for Spatial Development of the Federal Ministry of the Interior, in the building and transport committee of the German Association of Cities, she is a member of the Construction and Planning Committee of the Bavarian Association of Cities, the UNESCO Network Conservation of Modern Architecture and Integrated Territorial Urban Conservation, the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS), the board of directors for national urban development policy and the advisory board of the Federal Foundation for Building Culture and the German Werkbund.
