In 1883 Max Rischart opened a bakery on Ickstattstrasse in Munich. 13 years later (in 1896) he acquired today's headquarters at Fraunhoferstraße 44. His son, Max Rischart jun., Joined the company in 1906. In 1932 the branch was opened at Marienplatz 18, today's company headquarters. In 1940 the only daughter married the baker Franz Müller and the couple took over the management of the company. Air raids completely destroyed the headquarters in Fraunhoferstrasse in 1944 and the Marienplatz branch in 1945. However, sales continued in emergency shops. Both houses were rebuilt after the Second World War. In 1973, Gerhard Müller-Rischart took over the business in the 4th generation. In 1992 the bakery moved to Buttermelcherstraße 16. In 2004 the company received the Erasmus Grasser Prize for its services to educating young people . In 2007, Rischart opened a marquee at the Munich Oktoberfest called Café Kaiserschmarrn . Two years later Magnus Müller-Rischart took over the management in the 5th generation. In March 2012 Rischart was awarded the Bavarian Quality Prize for the outstanding holistic company quality . In 2009, 2015 and 2018, the company received the State Prize for the Bavarian Bakery Trade . In 2015, Gerhard Müller-Rischart, who led the company in the fourth generation, received the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon for his commitment .

architecture

In 1954 the building at Marienplatz 18 was built under the planning of the architect Hansjakob Lill . The facade was designed in collaboration with Marianne Müller-Rischart and Johannes Segieth . The company Rischart received the Facade Prize of the City of Munich for the complete renovation and conversion of this building . The neighboring house on Marienplatz with number 19 was built in 1969 by the architect and cartoonist Ernst Hürlimann . From 1979 to 1982 a new production facility was built at Buttermelcherstraße 16 in the middle of the city and in the immediate vicinity of the parent company. The architect Uwe Kiessler created a state-of-the-art bakery with a glass roof, for which he received the BDA Prize for Bavaria, the Prize for Steel Construction and the Mies van der Rohe Prize and was honored in the national competition for industry and craft in urban development. In 1990 the production facility at Buttermelcherstrasse 16 had to be increased. For this he again received the BDA Prize Bavaria. The architects Martin Rappmannsberger and Gerd Hoyer were also significantly involved in the planning and construction management.
