Peter Bömmels
Peter Bömmels (born November 11, 1951 in Frauenberg ) is a German painter and draftsman. Through his connection to the artist group Mülheimer Freiheit , he is one of the most important representatives of the New Wilds of the 1980s. From 2004 to 2018 he taught at the Dresden University of Fine Arts . He lives and works in Berlin .
Life
From 1970 to 1976 he studied sociology, politics and education at the University of Cologne . From 1977 to 1980 he worked in a children's shop . Bömmels was one of the co-founders of the Cologne artist group Mülheimer Freiheit , which also included Hans Peter Adamski , Walter Dahn , Jiří Georg Dokoupil , Gerard Kever and Gerhard Naschberger . From 1979 onwards, the young artists shared a backyard studio in the “Mülheimer Freiheit” street in Cologne, which leads to the Rhine. In 1980 he co-founded the music magazine Spex . In 1983 he received the sponsorship award of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia for fine arts . In 1986 and 1987 he was visiting professor at the Hamburg University of Fine Arts , from 1990 to 1992 at the then Berlin University of the Arts , in 1996 at the Royal Danish Academy of Art in Copenhagen and from 2001 to 2002 at the Braunschweig University of Art . From 2004 to 2018 professorship for painting at the HfBK Dresden . In 1993 he received the Fred Thieler Prize for Painting.
As an artist, Bömmels is self-taught . He is known for his drawing pictures on large-format acrylic canvases, which he processes with pastel and wax crayons . In his hair pictures he applied tufts of hair glued together on white canvas. Peter Bömmels is a member of the German Association of Artists .

His works are represented in a large number of collections, including that of Deutsche Bank in Frankfurt, where they are exhibited on the twelfth floor of one of the twin towers. In 2003/2004 his work was shown in Obsessive Painting - A Review of the New Wild in Karlsruhe.
