At the beginning of October 1955 he moved to Munich, where, in addition to his work as a bookbinder, he attended evening courses in trimesters from October 1, 1955 to July 16, 1956 at the master school for bookbinders at the Academy for the Graphic Arts in Munich under Professor Fritz Wiese. Subsequently, from September 1957 to July 1958, he attended the full semester of craftsmanship and founded the association of former master bookbinders. On July 11, 1958, he passed the master craftsman's examination, was on the board of the Munich-Upper Bavaria Bookbinding Guild from 1979 to 1990 and from 1979 to 1994 a member of the plenary assembly of the Munich and Upper Bavaria Chamber of Crafts as an elected expert.

Together with Gerhard Mertins , Gerhard Löwenthal and Erich Strätling, Vogelsgesang was one of the supporters of Colonia Dignidad in Chile and also visited the facilities there. According to his testimony at a hearing of the Bundestag in 1988 on the allegations against the Colonia Dignidad, Vogelgesangs visited four times between 1978 and 1982 for several days each time (as he emphasized privately). He reported:

“Back then, on all of my visits, I had extremely positive impressions, which were also confirmed by a large number of later visitors. That goes on into modern times. Among other things, Mr. Bossle had reported very positively about it at the time and made statements that went so far that he even praised Mr. Schäfer, who was constantly mentioned here , and wished him stamina. [...] According to what I perceived and saw in this German settlement - it was always several days, at that time it was five days on my first visit, ten days later - there was no reason to assume that there was terror and torture there give. "

Elsewhere he particularly praised the connection with Bavarian tradition shown in the Colonia: "People are conservative, think of Bavaria, show the flag with a lion and diamond, hope for Germany."
