Kurt Wilhelm Lentrodt (born March 24, 1898 in Munich ; † September 25, 1979 there ) was a German doctor and dentist. For his medical and social commitment, he received well-known awards, including the Great Federal Cross of Merit and the Bavarian Order of Merit .

family

Kurt Wilhelm Lentrodt's grandfather Wilhelm Lentrodt (1838–1921) was a farmer in Pyrmont and a member of the Waldeck state parliament; his father, Hans Lentrodt (1869–1946), court dentist and medical adviser, had been running a dental practice in Munich since 1895. In addition to the European nobility and well-known politicians, his patients also included the poet Rainer Maria Rilke .

In 1931 Kurt Wilhelm Lentrodt married Margret Schmölder. The marriage had five children; Among his grandchildren are Michael J. and Markus FO Lentrodt, who are now the fourth generation to run the dental practice in Munich.

Education and license to practice medicine

Kurt Wilhelm Lentrodt attended the Ludwigsgymnasium and the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich. After studying medicine and dentistry, he qualified as a doctor and dentist. He received his doctorate as a specialist in dentistry, oral and maxillofacial medicine in 1922, and he received his doctorate in medicine in 1929. This was followed by a period of assistance at the West German jaw clinic in Düsseldorf.

Medical activity

In 1926 Kurt Wilhelm Lentrodt joined his father Hans Lentrodt's practice in Munich. In addition to his practical work, Kurt Wilhelm Lentrodt continued to devote himself intensively to dental research and science. Due to his professional reputation, he was appointed to the board of the German Society for Dentistry, Oral and Maxillofacial Medicine, of which he was 2nd President from 1954 to 1957. In 1955 he was appointed honorary professor at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich. From the winter semester of 1955, Kurt Wilhelm Lentrodt held lectures there on the border areas of dentistry and medicine, which he continued as an active member of the teaching staff even after the age limit was exceeded. In addition to scientific lectures in Malmö , Bologna , Bozen , Salzburg , Linz , Turin , Warsaw , Bari and Rome , Lentrodt also gave keynote speeches in Frankfurt, Hamburg , Nauheim , Dresden , Berlin , Regensburg , Munich, Nuremberg and Jena . In 1960 Kurt Wilhelm Lentrodt was elected honorary president of the German Medical Working Group for Focus Research and Control, and in 1964 he was appointed honorary member of the Association for Scientific Dentistry in Stuttgart .

Social Commitment

From 1933 onwards, Kurt Wilhelm Lentrodt was the church council in the Munich parishes of Trinity, Stephanus and Emmaus. He was an active member of the Confessing Church and a personal friend of the Swiss theologian Karl Barth , who is known as the “Church Father of the 20th Century”. Kurt Wilhelm Lentrodt has been an uninterrupted member of the Bavarian State Synod since 1949, and its senior president since 1965. Lentrodt is regarded as the initiator and pioneer for the establishment of the Evangelical Theological Faculty at the University of Munich. His particular interest in the ecumenical movement led to encounters between leading Catholic and Protestant Christians in his home. In addition, Kurt Wilhelm Lentrodt is also socially involved in the Munich Rotary Club , of which he became president in 1959.
