The parents have won a trip to Mallorca , the nanny Kitty decides shortly after the Müller's departure to finally become a singing star and model and leaves, and so the four children - the teenager Babsi, the twins Max and Moritz and the little boy - at last the house to yourself. Her big brother, civil engineer Klaus, is supposed to take care of her, but he is often at work. The children and Klaus quickly find a liking to the new lodger Irene, even if the latter is increasingly catching up with his past: He not only has a relationship with Mareen, but also numerous previous admirers approach him when he appears in the disco with Irene. After she saw Klaus Mareen kissing again, she moved out of Müller's apartment, exasperated.

In the meantime, the children have found a loyal guardian in their uncle Alois, who is also inclined to modern parenting methods: a child should never be forced by their legal guardian and should never be given any orders. Instead, the music teacher introduces house music for everyone, much to the chagrin of the landlady Emma, under whose slipper her good-natured husband Gustav is. After Emma had already set up the resignation for the Müller family, Alois managed to fraternize with Gustav. With a little luck and diplomacy, Gustav, Irene and Klaus can be reconciled again.

criticism

The lexicon of international films called Hurray, our parents are not there as an “indifferent little series film for modest expectations of humor”: “When Mutti and Babsi [sic!] Are gone and the maid has run away, Bübchen, Mäxchen and Moritz put 'funny' pranks on - of the kind that you throw lunch on the wall and in the trash can. "

Later, a more objective language was chosen, but the content turned out to be even more negative. It is “a banal story, [...] intended exclusively for undemanding consumption. The plot has no trace of any relation to reality, and yet approaches to political awareness or dealing with social conflicts are downright defamed. "

Even the Protestant film observer did not discover anything positive about the film: "Rich in noise and poor in spirit, the film, which is also extremely sloppy in terms of craftsmanship, is an imposition for young and old."
