Optimal Energy was a South African automobile manufacturer headquartered in Cape Town .

history

Kobus Meiring, Mike Lomberg, Jian Swiegers and Gerhard Swart founded the company in 2005. Kobus Meiring directed it. The aim was the development, production and marketing of electric cars . Keith Helfet was the designer who previously worked at Jaguar Cars .

The company received financial support from the South African Department of Science & Technology (DST) through the Innovation Fund .

In April 2012, investors decided to close the company.

Optimal energy joules

The brand's only model was the Optimal Energy Joule . It was presented at the Mondial de l'Automobile in 2008 and at the Geneva Motor Show in 2010 .

According to initial planning, series production should start at the end of 2010. In April 2010, the planned start of series production was dated 2013.
