GRP Engineering (Pty) Ltd. was an automobile manufacturer from South Africa .
history
The Johannesburg company started producing automobiles in 1957 . The first prototype was presented at Johannesburg's Spring Motor Show that same year . Series production began in April 1957. The brand name was Protea . Production ended around 1958. A total of around 20 vehicles were built, one of which still exists.
Models
Only one model was on offer. This was an open two-seater sports car . Collins & Myers from Johannesburg who provided bodies from fiberglass . The four-cylinder engine with a displacement of 1172 cc came from Ford . A minor revision followed in 1958. Now the customer had the choice between engines from Fiat 1100 , Ford Zephyr and MG .
