Kit Car Center

Kit Car Center Pty was a South African automobile manufacturer from Boksburg that operated from 1982 to 2003. The brand name was KCC .

Models

The first model was the Salamander , a kind of VW buggy , from which almost 2000 vehicles were made.

In 1982 a replica of the Porsche 718 RSK appeared on the chassis of the VW Beetle . This model found around 1200 buyers by 1991.

The range also featured a replica of the Porsche 356 as a Speedster and the similar 356 Speedster Sebring . They were also based on the VW Beetle, but in addition to its air-cooled four - cylinder boxer engines , other engines from the VW Golf , from Toyota and Wankel engines from Mazda were also in use.

From 1984 there was a replica of the AC Cobra . A ladder frame formed the basis. The suspension came from the Jaguar XJ 6 and V8 engines from either Chevrolet or Ford . Several hundred kits and complete vehicles were created from this model . The model name Venom R / T has been passed down for 2003 .

In 1986, the Lynx, a modern roadster, added to the range. Many parts came from the Ford Cortina .

In the same year there was also a replica of the Ford GT 40 in the versions as Mark 1 and Mark 3 . Suspension from Ford Granada , V8 engines from Chevrolet or Ford and a five-speed gearbox from Audi were used.

In 1991 the Mantis appeared with a tubular frame. The suspension and engine came from the Ford Cortina.

The Razzo , which was presented in 1995, had an independent design . This was a sports car based on the VW Golf I with front-wheel drive . Its production ended in 2002.

In 1996 the Veep followed , which was available with two different wheelbases .

In 1998 the 550 Spyder appeared as a replica of the Porsche 550 .

The last model before the turn of the millennium was the Freeranger . It was similar to the Jeep CJ-7 . The body could be mounted on Jeep chassis, other two- or four-wheel drive chassis, or its own chassis.

For 2003 the models Venom R / T , 356 Speedster , 550 Spyder , Veep , Salamander and Freeranger have been handed down.

Sales from 2000

The company sold twelve vehicles each in 2000 and 2001 and only six in 2002. 20 complete vehicles and 40 kits have been delivered for 2003 .
