Intermotormakers was a South African manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

Gerrie Steenkamp founded the company in Cape Town in 1976 . He started assembling Lamborghini and Lotus automobiles . A change in legal regulations led to the end of this activity. A total of around 24 vehicles from each brand were built. In 1990 a vehicle developed in-house was presented. The brand name was Intermotormakers . Production ended in the same year. In 2010 the company was dissolved.

The company assembled Lamborghini Countach , Lamborghini Espada , Lotus Éclat and Lotus Elite . In addition, a Lamborghini Urraco from 1976 is known that bears an Intermotormakers emblem. A Lotus Esprit is also known.

In 1990 the Caracal was presented, designed by Nic de Waal. This was a roadster . A four-cylinder engine from Volkswagen with 1800 cc displacement was placed behind the seats in a mid-engine design . Four prototypes were created from this model .
