action

The former bank robber Zeki Müller doubts his suitability to continue working as a teacher at the Goethe Comprehensive School. He tries to revise his certificate of good conduct with Photoshop. Even acupuncture therapy , which his friend Elisabeth “Lisi” Schnabelstedt forced him to undergo, cannot improve his current psychological condition.

When he learns that a deceased former accomplice hid his loot in the tank of Zeki's car while on the run, he actually managed to recover diamonds worth tens of thousands of euros. Intending to quit as a teacher soon, he hides her in a soft toy at home. Shortly afterwards, however, Lisi collected this and put it in a donation container at the Schillergymnasium. Zeki storms into the competing school, where he meets the over-committed teacher Hauke Wölki. However, it turns out that the container is already on its way to the partner school in Thailand .

Since director Gerster is already planning to go on a school trip abroad with the Schillergymnasium in order to increase the chances of receiving funding, Zeki agrees to go to Thailand with his class. However, only students and teachers of the environmental work group are allowed, and the head of the work group, Ms. Leimbach-Knorr, refuses the trip. Instead, she suggests Föhr at the teachers' conference . Zeki's students therefore swap their sedative tablets for a psychedelic drug , whereupon Ms. Leimbach-Knorr gets a strong fit of anger and is admitted to a psychiatric clinic .

At the airport, a water bottle in the form of a hand grenade is discovered in Lisi's hand luggage, which the students had hidden there as a prank. Lisi is therefore taken away by the police and cannot go on the trip. After some turbulence on the plane, Zeki accidentally ingests too much of his sleeping pills and falls into a deep sleep. Upon arrival in Bangkok , Danger leads the class downtown, where they visit a club and party excessively. Zeki wakes up a little later and has great difficulty removing his students from the club.

The next day the group arrives in Ban Nam, Thailand, where the partner school is located. During the night, Zeki's group went to an old military site in the neighborhood, where the donations from the container were stored; Meike finds the plush toy in which Zeki's stolen property is hidden, but secretly puts it in her own pocket because it is also the school mascot. The next day, both schools visit an old temple complex, and Zeki notices a student from Schiller High School stealing the cuddly toy he was looking for from Meike's pocket. This leads to a fight between him and Hauke Wölki.

Zeki's pupils become suspicious, kidnap and " torture " a pupil from the other school who reveals the location of the cuddly toy. They confront Zeki with the find and accuse him of wanting to let her down, even though he had promised to support them until they graduate from high school. However, since Zeki does not respond, Chantal and Danger flee with the diamonds. They steal a boat and Zeki follows them with the paraglider, which is tied to the boat with a rope. When Danger breaks the throttle of the motorboat and the boat heads for a rock, Chantal and Danger jump off the boat. Zeki manages to save himself at the last moment by disconnecting the paraglider from the rope, while the boat explodes and sinks to the seabed with the diamonds.

Later the students apologize to Zeki. As a punishment, Chantal and Danger have to dive for the diamonds at the spot where the boat sank; but they have no previous diving experience. Shortly afterwards, they are attacked by a sinister, masked force that had attacked them earlier. It turns out that they were orphans from the tsunami disaster ten years ago. Zeki can persuade her to dive for the diamonds for him, which eventually succeeds.

Back at the old military installation, the pupils of the Goethe Comprehensive School learn that there is no fundraising campaign for the Schiller High School. Rather, the school uses the donation money to grow cannabis . Hauke Wölki turns out to be the initiator and exploits the orphans as workers on the plantation. Zeki pours gasoline over the drug plants and sets them on fire when Hauke Wölki arrives. He tries to put out the fire, but is knocked down by a falling pipe. Zeki pulls him out of danger.

In the building of the Thai partner school, Zeki's students take slippery photos with the initially unconscious Hauke Wölki. With these he is blackmailed by Zeki to let the Goethe Comprehensive School take over the partnership with the Thai school. Zeki uses the money for the diamonds to buy material for an orphanage, which he is building with his students. On site, director Gerster Zeki wants to be the face for the GGS advertising campaign, but he insists on appearing only with Lisi. At a final celebration everyone can make a wish. Chantal wishes that Zeki remains a teacher, which he also assures.

production

At the end of December 2013, producer Martin Moszkowicz announced that a sequel should go into production in 2014. Moszkowicz also confirmed the return of actors Elyas M'Barek , Karoline Herfurth and Katja Riemann . Almost all actors from the first part appeared in the sequel. There were some changes in class 10b and among the teachers at the Goethe Comprehensive School.

Filming began on February 22, 2015 and ended on May 10, 2015. As with part 1, it lasted about 40 days of shooting. The scenes from the Goethe comprehensive school were shot again at the Lise Meitner Gymnasium Unterhaching . The Führerbau on Königsplatz in Munich, which now houses the University of Music and Theater , was used for the scenes of the Schillergymnasium. Some scenes were filmed on Thai beaches; the capital Bangkok was also the scene.

advancement

The film was funded by the German Film Fund with € 1,240,180.45 . The German Association of Taxpayers criticized the funding because, in the opinion of its President Reiner Holznagel, "it cannot be that after a successful first part, the successor will also be subsidized by the taxpayer [...]."

Soundtrack

The title song was written by Sarah Connor and Tim Meyers and sung by Lena Meyer-Landrut . As in the first part, other well-known songs were used by various artists.

criticism

Fack ju Göhte 2 received mostly mixed reviews that didn't match the ratings of its predecessor. An exception to the positive is the partly enthusiastic, partly ironic review by Jürgen Kaube in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung , who rates the entertainment value of the actors in the second part even higher than in the first part. He thinks Karoline Herfurth's appearances are “all adorable for her wit and keen enthusiasm”, Volker Bruch “great”, Lucas Reiber “very impressive” and Katja Riemann “micro-virtuoso”, and also about the body of Elyas M'Barek “there are only good things to say ”. The actors “did in Fack ju Göhte what they often do when the comedies are incredibly bad. They played incredibly well, some of them incredibly better. ”An exception to the negative is Christoph Schröder's reception for Die Zeit :“ Part two had to come. It took just two years. [...] The result is worse than feared. That the plot of part two is even more outrageous than the already very outrageous plot of part one - free. That's not what it's about. [...] Everything that came across as spontaneous, surprising and anarchic in the first part now degenerates into mere routine. The swear words and insults fly through the air every minute: 'group asshole', 'freak', 'face'. […] In contrast to part one, however, the corrective is missing, the contrast: Cloud Cuckoo Land educator Lisi Schnabelstedt […]. This is where the real problem of Fack ju Göhte 2 begins : The idiots mustn't remain idiots. Everything has to be fine, socially and generally. And so, after 60 minutes at the latest, an unbearable feel-good puff pours over the Thai chaos scenario. ”In Schröder's opinion, Lucas Reiber as Etienne (“ Ploppi ”) is the only ray of hope.

Grossing results

Fack ju Göhte 2 was seen nationwide by 2,115,200 visitors on the opening weekend. This means the most successful opening weekend for a German film, without taking into account previews and pre-releases, as well as with sales of 17.73 million euros, the highest-grossing opening weekend for a film in Germany up to the theatrical release of Star Wars: The Awakening of Power .

After the golden screen for three million visitors in nine days and the bogey in platinum for five million visitors in 17 days, Fack ju Göhte 2 also achieved the golden screen with a star for six million visitors in 25 days. Up to December 31, 2015, 7,630,349 visitors were counted at the German box offices. In terms of visitor numbers, the film thus ranks first in its year of publication and fourth place among the most successful German films since the beginning of the visitor count in 1968. Thus, the sequel also exceeded its predecessor. The international box office result is over 80 million euros.
