Volker Bruch
Volker Bruch (born March 9, 1980 in Munich ) is a German-Austrian actor .
Life
Volker Bruch's father is German, his mother from Linz from Austria, which is why he now has both citizenships.
After graduating from high school in Munich , Bruch completed a master's degree in performing arts at the Max Reinhardt Seminar in Vienna from 2001 to 2004 . There he was in the Caucasian Chalk Circle according to Brecht and in the production Love me somehow! No, better not! to see. In 2002, during his training, he received minor roles in the crime series Kommissar Rex and in the family series Father Against Will . From this material he put together a demo tape and applied to a Viennese drama agency .
He declined to switch to a permanent theater position after completing his studies in order to concentrate exclusively on the film and television industry. Other smaller roles followed. In 2005, he played one of the leading roles in The True Life alongside Katja Riemann , for which he received a nomination for the Adolf Grimme Prize in 2007 . He was also nominated for the German TV Prize 2007 for the best supporting role in Nothing is Forget and Rose .
At the side of Matthias Schweighöfer and Til Schweiger , he achieved his breakthrough on the big screen in 2008 in Der Rote Baron . Other films such as Der Baader Meinhof Complex , Der Vorleser and Hin und weg von Christian Zübert followed. In 2017 he embodied the SS Brigadefuhrer Walter Schellenberg in The Power of Evil , which shows the events of the assassination attempt on Reinhard Heydrich .
In the television series Babylon Berlin , which is based on the historical crime novels by Volker Kutscher , he plays the main role of Commissioner Gereon Rath. For this he received the Golden Camera in 2018 for best German actor.
In 2019 he made a guest appearance on the comedy television show Jerks. where he played himself.
Bruch has five siblings and lives in Berlin.
He has been in a relationship with the actress Miriam Stein since 2009 , who later also appeared in Our Mothers, Our Fathers . In March 2017, it was announced that the two had had a child shortly before.
