action

Roland Spatz is a workaholic who over the years has become estranged from his wife Sybille and their two adolescent sons Charles and Linus. When he loses his job as risk manager, he suddenly has to grapple with his family: his wife, who is taking refuge in an affair and working in their gallery, with the eldest son Charles, who discovers his homosexuality at the federal government, and the youngest Son Linus, who - to attract attention - makes bombs and terrorizes the neighborhood. The neighboring Krüger family, who lost a son a few years ago, acts as a counter-image to his efforts to create an idyllic nuclear family: the father is an alcoholic, the mother is addicted to pills and the daughter is suicidal.

After Linus set his parents' house on fire towards the end of the film and Florina Krüger threw herself into the swimming pool in a pill frenzy, Roland and Sybille work hand in hand to save Florina's life. In the end, the two of them sleep arm in arm in the garden of their burned house.

Linus tells off-screen that everything is always in motion in chemistry.

criticism

"Burlesque that is convincingly played, but at times too indecisive and predictably developed, which only finds the balance between tragedy and satire at a late stage, but then quite coherently paints the image of a republic in crisis at a high level."
