action

The friends Kati and Jo haven't seen each other since graduating from high school five years ago. Kati is in the stress of finishing her architectural studies when she hears unsettling messages from Jo in India on the answering machine. But none of the old friends from the Bavarian hometown of Tandern want to accompany them: Mike works as a doctor, Rocky has a son and is getting married soon, Toni also has a girlfriend and is angry that Jo has not contacted him for years. That's why Kati travels to India alone, head over heels. In the ashram , which is considered to be Jo's last known whereabouts, she shows her picture around, but nobody recognizes the girl. She got into conversation with Ruben from Switzerland and decided to travel on with him to a “yoga retreat” to look for Jo.

In Tandern, Kati's mother hears on the radio about a bomb attack in India that may have killed European tourists. Worried, the fathers of Kati and Jo, Hubert and Walter, also set out for India to look for their daughters. In the ashram, however, they just miss Kati's departure.

Kati and Ruben get closer on the way, but Kati's backpack is stolen at a train station. As she pursues the thief, he falls and injures himself - it is a young girl who arouses Kati's pity. Ruben doesn't want to miss the train and drives off, but Kati takes the girl to the hospital and then to her family, who live in the area where she wanted to go with Ruben anyway.

Meanwhile, Jo unexpectedly turns up at home in Tandern and confesses to her mother that she is pregnant. Mike notices this when he treats her after a faint attack, and Rocky realizes it too, but Toni breaks up with his girlfriend because of his re-awakening feelings for Jo and is deeply hurt when he finds out about it.

Kati brings the Indian girl home - to a slum, where the father reacts angrily and with blows when his daughter, who was probably sent to beg or steal, returns empty-handed. Kati intervenes and is also attacked, can escape with the girl, but loses her backpack.

Hubert and Walter also lose their luggage when they leave their train during a stop on the open road and miss the onward journey. They are then attacked and robbed of their clothes. The two Upper Bavarians wander through India in underpants and socks until they are picked up by friendly locals.

Kati, still with the Indian girl in tow, meets Ruben again in a café at the original destination. When he gets something to eat, his cell phone rings. Kati reads astonished on the display: "Jo calling" and answers. She learns from Jo that she is pregnant from Ruben, who had lied to Kati. She confronts him about it, and during the argument the Indian girl suddenly runs away with Rubens' wallet - Kati cheers her on and then goes to a penniless police station. Coincidence would have it that Hubert and Walter were also stranded there. After the happy reunion, the trio returns to Delhi .

Rocky's wedding is in Tandern. Chaos breaks out when his girlfriend has doubts at the last moment, but he manages to clear them up. Jo and Toni also hug.

In India, however, Kati decided to stay in order to find herself. As she watches the believers bathing on the banks of a holy river, someone suddenly sits down next to her - it's Mike. The two smile at each other without a word.

criticism

"What you do and how you live depends, if you are lucky, more with friends than with big plans, and the chance to be reminded in the cinema is the best a film can offer."

- Doris Kuhn : Süddeutsche Zeitung

The German Film and Media Assessment FBW in Wiesbaden awarded the film the rating particularly valuable.
