Gerd Baumann (* 1967 in Forchheim ) is a German musician , composer and university professor .

Life

Gerd Baumann completed his training as a musician and composer at the Munich Guitar Institute, the Grove School of Music in Los Angeles and the University of California in Los Angeles, where he also worked on his own projects. From 1989 to 1991 Baumann was musical director at the Munich studio theater. His first string quartet was performed in 1994 and his first opera Nyx , written the year before, in 1997 . He also composed theater music for the Schauburg in Munich and the Munich Volkstheater .

Baumann has been the producer of Konstantin Wecker since 1997, and he also plays guitar in his band. He also plays guitar and trumpeter in the music group Geheimrevue and, together with Jens Fischer-Rodrian, forms the guitar duo Paradoz . Since 2013 Baumann has appeared together with Sebastian Horn ( Bananafishbones ) as Dreiviertelblut , for whose pieces he composes the music. For a number of years Gerd Baumann has primarily been active as a composer of film music. In 2005 he was nominated for the German Film Prize for his film music for From the Depth of Space . He received another nomination and this time also the win of the German Film Award in 2007 due to his much praised music and some songs he sang himself in Who dies earlier is longer dead . In this successful film by Marcus H. Rosenmüller , he also plays a small role as rock musician John Ferdinand Woodstock . He released one song from the film as a single as John Ferdinand Woodstock & The Rebirth Experience . Baumann also took over the complete film music for Rosenmüller's following film, Schwere Jungs . He received praise for the atmospheric light music in the style of the 1950s.

In 2011 Gerd Baumann founded the indie music label Millaphon Records together with Till Hofmann and Mehmet Scholl .

Between 2013 and 2017 Baumann composed the Singspiel for the strong beer tasting on the Nockherberg in Munich.

With effect from the 2013/14 academic year, Gerd Baumann was appointed professor for the “Composition for Film and Media” department at the Munich University of Music and Theater as the successor to Enjott Schneider , where he is professor and director of the Institute for New Music, Composition and conducting.
