occupation

Best Time is a German feature film by Marcus H. Rosenmüller from 2007. It is the first part of a coming-of-age trilogy about growing up in the Upper Bavarian province. The main roles are played by Anna Maria Sturm and Rosalie Thomass . The film, co-produced by Monaco Film and Bayerischer Rundfunk , was released in 2007 and first broadcast on Bavarian television in 2010 .

action

The film describes the life of 17-year-old Kati, who would like to travel the world with her close friend Jo. Kati often climbs from the balcony at night to meet Jo and to pound along dirt roads in her relatively strict parents' VW bus . They philosophize, drink and smoke in the process.

Kati has an admirer, Mike, who is in the armed forces. Kati raves about him, but Jo realizes that he doesn't love her. On her birthday, Kati received a letter saying she would go on a one-year exchange program in America. At night they hitchhike to the M1 disco to meet Mike there. But he didn't think about the birthday and is already on the way to the next disco, while Kati and Jo have to walk home.

Kati and her father quarrel more and more often because they hardly understand each other. One night Kati and Jo get stuck in the VW bus just outside their parents' farm in a construction site and cannot pull out the car. Kati calls Mike, who is at a football team's meeting, but he doesn't come to her help. So her good friend Rocky helps out, who finally organizes Toni with a manure self-driver as a tow truck and keeps Kati's parents on the street so that the girls don't get blown.

When Mike shows up at Kati's late night, she can hardly forgive him and breaks up with him the next day. Kati leaves soon after. When she says goodbye, she overcomes herself and hugs her father all the more tightly. Rocky, who is in love with Kati, just misses her and cycles after the bus until Kati finally gets off the bus and returns.

Reviews

The lexicon of international films is: “A relaxed, at the same time closely observing youth and family film that takes the concerns of its protagonists seriously. An atmospheric mixture of Heimatfilm elements and bizarre humor, in which the rural idyll is of course hardly questioned, but is instead drawn as a space for a comfortable existence. "

Zeit reviewer Hanns-Georg Rodek notes that Rosenmüller does not design pictures of a home with dirndls and alpine glow, his landscape is also found in Hesse or Saxony. For him, home is made up of people, the youth clique and - consciously - the three generations of a family. The decisive factor is the language, because there is a lot of Bavarian talk in “Beste Zeit”, but the dialect does not stand for white-blue chauvinism, but is a binding agent in a world in which everything is drifting apart. It is a warm cloud, and it also envelops the Northern and Eastern Lights, who hear the cold winds of globalization screeching around them.
