history
Hilgertshausen and Tandern were first mentioned in a document in 843. Hilgertshausen, seat of the closed Hofmark of the same name , belonged to the Counts of Lösch from 1517 to 1813. From 1640 to 1793, Tandern was the seat of a closed Hofmark of the Barons von Mandl, the first owner from this family was Johann von Mandl .
The precursor communities Hilgertshausen and Tandern came into being in 1818 with the community edict . On April 1, 1971, as part of the regional reform in Bavaria, the previously independent municipality of Oberdorf was incorporated into Tandern. On January 1, 1976, part of the dissolved municipality of Randelsried followed. Finally, on May 1, 1978, Hilgertshausen was added. On August 1, 1980, the municipality name was officially changed to Hilgertshausen-Tandern . The former municipality of Tandern tried unsuccessfully to bring about the dissolution of the municipal " forced marriage " with Hilgertshausen by filing a popular lawsuit before the Bavarian Constitutional Court .
Tandern became known as the location for the films Best Time , Best Area and Best Chance by director Marcus H. Rosenmüller .
