About this picture

Karlsfeld is a municipality on the northwestern outskirts of Munich in the Upper Bavarian district of Dachau .

geology

The alpine foothills between the Limestone Alps and the Danube , in which Karlsfeld is also located, lies on a deep subsidence basin that has been filled for millions of years mainly from erosion from the Alps . In the Tertiary , mainly sand and debris were deposited there by rivers from the Alps. During the subsequent ice ages , the last of which ended around 10,000 years ago, large glacier and meltwater flows formed in the Alpine area, leaving moraine hills and gravel plains in the foothills of the Alps . 55 km wide Munich gravel plain , which starts at the end moraine of the glacier foreland Isar, is an inclined plane, the surface shapes are formed primarily by the würmeiszeitlichen gravel. By Karlsfeld flowing Würm that the Lake Starnberg drained and north of Karlsfeld of Amper flows. Karlsfeld is located in a low moor, the Dachauer Moos, in a very central location.

geography

Karlsfeld borders in the north on the district town of Dachau and in the south on Allach and in the southeast on Feldmoching , both districts of the city of Munich. To the west lies the municipality of Bergkirchen in the district of Dachau.

Community structure

The municipality has four officially named municipal parts (the type of settlement is given in brackets ):

The settlement areas result in a divided development: In the northeast the main settlement Karlsfeld with the Obergrashof on the B 304. In the north the Rothschwaige and in the southeast the Waldschwaige, which protrudes seamlessly into the settlement area of Munich. The Waldschwaige is the southernmost place in the entire district.

history

Town house in Karlsfeld

The settlement of Rothschwaige, the oldest district mentioned in the 12th century, was for a long time the only populated area in what is now the municipality of Karlsfeld in the middle of the Dachauer Moos .

In the course of reclamation of wasteland and moorland areas in Bavaria, which was encouraged by relevant legislation, three settlements named after three children of the elector and later King Max I Joseph were built in 1802 along the road from Munich to Dachau : Ludwigsfeld , whose name refers to the oldest son and later king Ludwig I. goes back, the Augustenfeld named after the eldest daughter of the ruler Augusta and between the two Karlsfeld , which owes its name to the second oldest son, Karl Theodor . While both Ludwigsfeld and Augustenfeld have merged into their much larger neighbors Munich and Dachau, Karlsfeld has been able to maintain the independence that it only gained on April 1, 1939, to this day.

In 1802, Karlsfeld consisted of only eight houses with 34 residents. It was not until 1900 that Karlsfeld grew to around 30 houses with 170 inhabitants.

Karlsfeld belonged to the Augustenfeld community until it was dissolved on April 1, 1939. On this day, the Karlsfeld community was formed, while the remaining part of the previous Augustenfeld community was incorporated into the city of Dachau .

In 1945 Karlsfeld had about 1500 inhabitants.

On January 1, 1979, Karlsfeld ceded a small area with more than 150 inhabitants to the district town of Dachau.

In 1999, as part of a land swap with the city of Munich, Karlsfeld received the splintered settlement "Am Burgfrieden".

Since February 2011, Karlsfeld has been a member of the "Westallianz", a coordination committee of six municipalities that lie along the A8 motorway from Munich to Augsburg .

Lakes, nature and recreation

Karlsfelder See

The Karlsfelder See was created in the early 1940s when gravel was required for the Moosach marshalling yard and the resulting pit gradually filled with groundwater. After the end of the Second World War , the lake was used by the US Army as a training area for floating tanks until 1968 . From 1971 to 1976 it was converted into a leisure and recreation area with a swimming lake.

The lake has a length of 980 meters in north-south direction, the average width is about 250 meters. Around the lake there are around 17 hectares of sunbathing lawn with trees, 4.75 kilometers of walking and cycling paths, two restaurants with a beer garden, two beach volleyball fields, over 20 table tennis tables as well as several children's playgrounds and barbecue facilities. During the swimming season, up to 20,000 people visit the lake and the recreation area every day.

Immediately to the northwest of the bathing lake there is a wet biotope and a smaller quarry pond, the Schallweiher. At the outflow of the Karlsfelder See, the Moosgraben and its bank areas have been redesigned in a natural way. In particular , this improves the habitat for the endangered Helmet Azure damsel , a species of dragonfly, and at the same time creates a valuable poor meadow.

In the south of the bathing lake there is the Karlsfeld indoor swimming pool and the center of the sports club TSV Eintracht Karlsfeld e. V. with stadium, restaurant, sports hall and several sports fields.

Waldschwaigsee and other natural areas

Würm near Karlsfeld

In the north-west of Karlsfeld, in a moss landscape, the Waldschwaigsee is around 11 hectares in size and was created in 1971 from a gravel pit. At that time the gravel was needed for the construction of the federal highway 471 . The lake is part of the Langwieder Moos , a part of the Dachauer Moos. The island, which is located in the lake and has been under landscape protection since 1975, gives the lake a flair that can definitely be described as romantic. To the north is the Mückensee , directly on the Schwarzhölzl.

At the southern border of Karlsfeld, the Würm is divided into the Würm (towards the north) and the Würm Canal (towards the east, forming the border with Munich), which is part of the northern Munich canal system . Both the Würm and Würm Canal are largely embedded in a green strip of trees and provided with a riverside path that can be used by pedestrians and cyclists alike.

Directly on the old Würm is the Eichinger Weiher , a small, natural groundwater lake that was dredged in 1936 to remove gravel for the BMW (today's MAN site on the Würm Canal).

If you follow the course of the Würm to the Rothschwaige district, you will come across the small Schwaigerbachweiher. The pond is integrated into the protected landscape component " Schwaigerbachweiher with orchard and remains of alluvial forest between Münchner Straße and Würm in Karlsfeld, district of Rothschwaige ". This protected part of the landscape covers a total area of around 1.75 hectares.

The 30 hectare Prinzenpark is located in Karlsfeld .

Regular events

Since 1957, the Karlsfeld-Nord settlement community has held the ten-day annual settlement festival . After it was relocated to the Karlsfelder See, it was called the Siedler- und Seefest from 1968 to 2016 . The Karlsfelder Triathlon has been held every year since 1984 , originally on the neighboring regatta course , later on Lake Karlsfelder See, which with over a thousand participants is one of the largest and oldest triathlon events in Bavaria.
