history

19th century

Entrance building 1868

Dachau station was opened on November 14, 1867, together with the Munich - Ingolstadt railway line. The station was equipped with a turntable , a crossing track and a loading track leading to the goods shed . A reception building and a water station were also built. On April 12, 1870, the Munich – Ingolstadt line was extended as the Altmühlbahn to Treuchtlingen . In 1884 the track system was expanded and in 1887 the station building was expanded. In 1891 the Munich – Ingolstadt – Treuchtlingen railway line was expanded to two tracks, after which the station building was expanded again in 1895.

20th century

On July 8, 1912, the Dachau local railway from Dachau to Markt Indersdorf , also known as the Ludwig-Thoma -Bahn, was opened. This local line was extended to Altomünster on December 18, 1913. At the same time, the Dachau station was renamed Dachau Bahnhof , as the new Dachau Stadt stop was built on the Dachau local railway .

Until around 1982 there was an industrial track that branched off from the Dachau train station in a north-easterly direction and ran along Friedensstraße across the Isar-Amperwerk site to the riot police accommodation; today there is a bike path there. Up until its liberation in 1945, the Dachau concentration camp was connected to the rail network via this track . On April 27, 1945, the death train from Buchenwald ended here .

In 1939 electrical operation was opened on the Munich – Dachau section. The electrification of the line leading to Ingolstadt was delayed by the outbreak of the Second World War and could only be completed in 1960. In 1972, the Dachau station was rebuilt and expanded for the S-Bahn service, with two new platforms being built. On 28 May 1972, the Munich S-Bahn was finally put into operation and the distance Petershausen -Dachau Munich from now on the line operated S2. In 1976 the general cargo transport and in 1980 the goods handling was stopped. In 1995, the Ludwig-Thoma-Bahn Dachau-Altomünster was also integrated into the network of the Munich S-Bahn as S-Bahn line A. However, the line was still not electrified, so diesel multiple units were used. In 1998 the station and forecourt were significantly rebuilt.

Conversion for the high-speed line Nuremberg – Ingolstadt – Munich

In the spring of 2000, construction work began on the upgraded Ingolstadt – Munich line as part of the Nuremberg – Ingolstadt – Munich high-speed line . The Petershausen – Munich line was to be expanded to a speed of 200 km / h and the S-Bahn was to be relocated to its own tracks. The expansion of the Petershausen – Dachau section was completed on April 21, 2003, and the third track, which is used by the S2, was also opened. On December 11, 2005, the expansion of the Dachau-Munich- Obermenzing section was completed and the two additional tracks for the S-Bahn were opened, which enabled a 10-minute cycle on the S-Bahn between Munich and Dachau. When the railway line was expanded, the Dachau train station was fundamentally redesigned. It received new platforms and was made barrier-free. The existing facilities for freight traffic, including tracks 5, 6 and 7, the loading tracks as well as the diesel filling station and the small vehicle shed have been omitted without replacement.

From April 28 to December 13, 2014, the Ludwig-Thoma-Bahn from Dachau to Altomünster was electrified. The previous S-Bahn line A was replaced by wing trains of the S2.
