The Munich Isartor station is a double-track tunnel station of the Munich S-Bahn . It is located below Isartorplatz and Thierschstrasse / Zweibrückenstrasse in Munich . The columns, escalators and the decorative stripes on the walls are kept pea green in its signature color .
description
Like all other stations on the main line , it has two exits. The western one opens onto the intersection of Altstadtring / Tal / Zweibrückenstrasse via a spacious mezzanine , the eastern one opens into the inner courtyard of the Breiterhof shopping mall between Thierschstrasse and Liebherrstrasse .
Because the S-Bahn line between the Isartor and Rosenheimer Platz stations crosses under the Isar , a weir chamber gate is installed in each tunnel tube immediately to the east of the station , with which the tunnel can be sealed off in a watertight manner so that the stations west of the Isar in the event of a water ingress would not fill up and the subway network would also be flooded by the crossing at Marienplatz . There is no such construction on the eastern side of the Isar, as the Rosenheimer Platz station is significantly above the Isar level.
When the tunnel was being built, the Isartor tower, which weighed around 2,000 tons, had to be supported by an elaborate auxiliary structure in order to secure the construction site and tower.
The station is one of the five tunnel stations on the main S-Bahn line , which was built between 1966 and 1972. In contrast to the other four, Munich Isartor is operationally a train station and not just a stopping point , as it has four points. These serve to change from platform 1 to platform 2 in the direction of the Ostbahnhof, and in the direction of Donnersbergerbrücke they enable the transition from platform 2 to platform 1.Like the Rosenheimer Platz stop, Isartor station is a pure S-Bahn station with no connection to the underground or long-distance transport. However, you can change to tram lines 16 and 17 and bus line 132. In 2007, 45,900 people entering, leaving and changing trains used the station every day (Mon – Fri). The platform is 210 meters long and 96 cm high.
Munich Isartor is the destination station for visitors to the Deutsches Museum and the German Patent and Trademark Office who arrive by S-Bahn.
