The Freising train station is a few hundred meters from downtown Freising away south of the Cathedral Hill .

history

Reception building of Freising train station around 1900

The station was opened in 1858 as part of the construction of the line from Munich to Landshut . This was extended to Regensburg until 1859 . In 1891/92 the line to Landshut was expanded to two tracks. In 1925 the section from Munich to Freising was electrified, and the remainder to Regensburg by 1927. Shortly before the end of the Second World War , the station was bombed on April 18, 1945. 224 people died at and in the vicinity of the station and the station was destroyed. The new station was inaugurated in 1953. Freising has been connected to the Munich S-Bahn since 1972 , which started operations that year. The Hallertau local railway operated until 1973, and it went to Langenbach on the route to Landshut and then branched off towards Hallertau . The systems in Freising train station have been remote-controlled from Munich since 2006.

Rail transport

Current track plan

The station has four platform tracks on two central platforms . The platforms can be reached via two underpasses. One is located directly at the station building and is equipped with elevators or has a ramp that is barrier-free. The other access option is at the northern end of the platform and only has stairs. Regional trains run from platform 1 to Landshut. The through regional trains, regional express and the Alex in the direction of Munich main station and the airport express to Munich airport stop on platform 2 . The S1 line of the S-Bahn , which connects Freising with downtown Munich every 20-40 minutes (20-minute intervals during rush hour), ends on platform 3 . The above-mentioned through trains run on platform 4 in the direction of Landshut and on to Passau or Regensburg / Nuremberg. In the southeast of the platform tracks there is a continuous track for overtaking and two sidings on which S-Bahn trains stand overnight. The two sidings can only be reached from the Landshut side of the station after the connection to Munich has been dismantled. There used to be other freight tracks, but without exception they are no longer in operation. Companies with siding included the tractor manufacturer Schlüter and BayWa . Every working day, Freising station is used by 8,600 passengers on the S-Bahn alone.
