Lerchenfeld is the youngest and, with over 13,000 inhabitants, the most populous district of Freising in the southeast of the city, directly adjoining the floodplain landscape , on the right of the Isar , and was a floodplain until the first dam was built in 1817.

history

The first traces of civilization in the immediate vicinity were found in the Riegerau. They date from the Bronze Age around 1550 BC. Today's development is v. Chr. a. Thanks to Thomas Petuel . He began to create and sell settlement land. The first residential building was not built until 1860. 34 houses were built by 1865. In 1880 the number rose to 64 houses, at the turn of the century there were already around 100 properties in Lerchenfeld. The name Lerchenfeld first appeared in 1865. Before that, the terms "lower herb garden", "airing" or "lime kiln" were used. It was not until 1875 that the name Lerchenfeld was officially used, but has never been officially registered to this day.

In 1879 the Lerchenfelder department of the volunteer fire brigade, which still exists today, was founded. In 1889 gas candelabra for lighting was set up in two places. In 1898 they were replaced by electric street lighting. In 1899 Lerchenfeld experienced a flood of the century. Entire streets were washed away.

After 1945 brisk construction activity began, and the strong influx of people gradually made Lerchenfeld the most populous district of Freising.

Since 1984, the 42 meter high campanile of the newly built Catholic parish church St. Lantpert, together with the many other towers in the rest of the city area, has shaped the silhouette of the city of Freising.

Lerchenfeld had 11,875 inhabitants on July 1, 2008, 12,273 inhabitants in 2014 and 13,123 inhabitants on January 1, 2019.

The city of Freising's outdoor swimming pool had been in Lerchenfeld since 1902. In 2016, the groundbreaking ceremony for the new construction of a shared indoor and outdoor pool took place at the same location. On March 1, 2019, the combined pool was opened under the name Fresch . In addition, the Savoyer Au sports complex is located in Lerchenfeld, with a football and athletics stadium, several other public sports fields and a mini golf course. The soccer club SC Eintracht Freising plays its home games in the Savoy Au region .

The Tollhaus youth center on Isarstrasse has, among other things, band exercise rooms, sports fields and skate facilities. The Isar floodplains offer a high level of recreational value with numerous walking and cycling paths. In addition, the Stoibermühle recreation area with a swimming lake can be reached quickly from Lerchenfeld .

The most important traffic routes in Lerchenfeld are the Isarstraße as a connection between the Luitpoldbrücke leading into the city center and the federal highway 301 , as well as the Erdinger Straße and the Ismaninger Straße, which both lead through the district in a north-south direction. For a long time, the streets of Lerchenfeld consisted only of peat paths (partly with gravel) . With private funds, a first pavement was laid on Erdinger Strasse in 1878. The Korbinianbrücke (for pedestrians, cyclists and city buses), the new Isarbrücke "Luitpoldbrücke" and, since September 2015, the Isarsteg Nord (for pedestrians and cyclists) to the Luitpoldanlage and in the direction of the Neustift district provide connections to the old town and the rest of the city . The construction of another, southern Isar footbridge at the level of the Savoyer Au is in planning. Lerchenfeld is connected to the city center, the train station and the Attaching part of the municipality by several city bus routes. The federal motorway 92 runs along the southern edge of Lerchenfeld .
