The place is about three kilometers northeast of the city center and about one kilometer from the outskirts. Only a few hundred meters to the west is the district of Xaverienthal , which consists of only one property.
The place is first mentioned in 772 as Altunhusir . In the following centuries the place was mentioned again and again in the context of property deals. The most important landowners were the Bishop of Freising , the Freising Cathedral Chapter and the Neustift Monastery . Altenhausen was just part of the territory of the Hochstift Freising, the sovereignty of the Freising prince-bishop. From 1818 to 1904 the place was part of the community Neustift . On January 1, 1905, the entire community was incorporated into the city of Freising.
