Railway stations in Bavaria |
The Marktredwitz station is the station of the district town of Marktredwitz in the Bavarian administrative region Upper Franconia . This is where the two main routes Nuremberg – Cheb and Regensburg – Hof intersect .
The Marktredwitzer Bahnhof - when it opened it was still called Markt Redwitz Bahnhof - is an important railway junction in Northern Bavaria . It is located in the northwestern part of the city and is about five minutes' walk from the city center.
From the central bus station on Bahnhofplatz, regular buses connect Marktredwitz with the surrounding area. Directly at the train station is a hotel, a main office of the Deutsche Post , a medical center and the headquarters of the Scherdel Group , a leading manufacturer of technical springs.
history
The station was opened on May 15, 1878 by the Bavarian State Railroad together with the Schnabelwaid - Marktredwitz (today part of the Nuremberg - Cheb line) and Marktredwitz - Holenbrunn (today part of the Regensburg - Hof line) as a through station. The expansion to the crossing station took place with the opening of the branch to Schirnding on November 20, 1879 (later extended to Cheb, both today parts of the Nuremberg - Cheb line) and the connection to Wiesau (today part of the Regensburg - Hof line) on June 1 Took place in 1882.
Before the Second World War , Marktredwitz was an important railway junction for all of Europe. The lines Rome - Munich - Berlin - Stockholm and Paris - Nuremberg - Prague crossed here . Over a hundred trains left the station every day in the four directions. Even after the opening of the border , the Marktredwitz train station played an important role. For many GDR citizens, it was the first opportunity to leave the overcrowded trains that passed the border via Hof , or that coming from Cheb , stopped at the station.
Until 2006, Marktredwitz was the stop of the InterCity connection Nuremberg - Hof - Dresden, since its termination Marktredwitz has been served by the Franken-Sachsen-Express (FSX), which has replaced the former IC line in regional traffic. After the electrification of the Reichenbach - Hof line, this connection was also discontinued. Since then, the RE only operate on the Nuremberg - Hof route.
Infrastructure
The once extensive track systems have been reduced in recent years, as in many formerly important train stations, by dismantling. In freight transport, the station is important as a reloading station for combined road-rail transport for Northern Bavaria. Five platform tracks are available for passenger traffic. In the reception hall there is a bookstore, a bakery and the Deutsche Bahn travel center with ticket machines and a waiting area.
An electronic interlocking is responsible for the control of the train station and the service points Holenbrunn , Kirchenlamitz , Marktleuthen , Martinlamitz, Neusorg , Pechbrunn , Röslau and Waldershof .
Train connections
In the meantime, the station has lost its importance in Germany-wide rail traffic, but is still the central transfer station for the northern Bavarian, Saxon and western Bohemian regions. It is served by the Deutsche Bahn with regional express trains, the Oberpfalzbahn , the agilis and the alex .
There are direct connections to Bad Steben , Bayreuth , Coburg , Cheb , Hof , Munich , Nuremberg , Regensburg , Schwandorf and Weiden . The German train sets diesel railcars of the series 612 , agilis such Series 650 "Regio Shuttle" and ALEX locomotives of the series 223 with passenger coaches one.
