Kirchenlamitz is a town in the Upper Franconian district of Wunsiedel in the Fichtel Mountains . The city is located about 35 kilometers northeast of Bayreuth on the Lamitz River on the Bavarian Porcelain Route . The next regional center is Selb (together with the Czech city of ).

history

Until the church is planted

The history of Kirchenlamitz is also that of Epprechtstein Castle, which is about two kilometers to the southwest . In 1352 the burgraves of Nuremberg were enfeoffed with her and a short time later came into possession of the entire rule and thus also of the place. Burggraf Frederick V of Nuremberg gave the city in 1374, the city charter , which was lost later. The principality of Bayreuth , to which the place then belonged, became part of the Kingdom of Prussia in 1791 . After four years of French occupation, the place and the castle became part of the Kingdom of Bavaria in 1810 . In 1818 the political municipality was established.

19th and 20th centuries

Kirchenlamitz became the seat of an older Bavarian regional court that existed until 1879 , which was then converted into a district court . In 1901 Kirchenlamitz was raised to the status of town again. The district court was dissolved in 1959.

Incorporations

On January 1, 1978, the previously independent municipality Dörflas near Kirchenlamitz and most of the dissolved municipalities Raumetengrün and Reicholdsgrün were incorporated.

Between 1988 and 2018 the population decreased from 4,350 to 3,286 by 1,064 or 24.5%.

The election of the mayor had to be decided on March 16, 2008 in a runoff election between the incumbent mayor Reinhard Weiß (WÜL) and the SPD candidate Thomas Schwarz. With a turnout of 68.42%, black received 1331 votes and white received 665 votes. First Mayor is Thomas Schwarz, Second Mayor Friederike Kränzle (CSU) and Third Mayor Gerd Müller (WÜL).

Epprechtstein Castle in the Buchhaus district

On the Epprechtstein there are many former quarries of Epprechtstein-granite . Some of them are connected to each other via a quarry circular hiking trail . Most of them are abandoned and the rainwater has formed lakes in them.

Front windows that have become rare today can be seen in some older houses .

The stone industry company Reul existed from 1909 to 1996 in Kirchenlamitz.

From the end of the 1970s on, pitchblende was mined in the Christa mine near Großschloppen ; In 1989 operations were stopped because of the low world market price for uranium .
