Bernhard Hermann Röttger

Bernhard Hermann Röttger (* 1891 ; † 1972 ) was a German art historian and monument conservator .

He studied art history and received his doctorate from the University of Munich in 1921 with a thesis on Hans Mielich under Heinrich Wölfflin .

He was the main curator at the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation .

Bernhard Hermann Röttger created several inventory volumes in the series Die Kunstdenkmäler von Bayern , which are now considered standard literature. The focus was on Lower and Upper Franconia , Lower Bavaria and the Palatinate . His publications include writings on Mespelbrunn Castle , the city of Würzburg , the Convent Prüfening or St. Emmeram's Abbey . In 1925 he dealt with the painter Hans Mielich .
