Nagel (Bavarian: Nogl) is a community in the Upper Franconian district of Wunsiedel in the Fichtel Mountains , a member of the Tröstau administrative community and a state-approved resort .
geography
Nagel lies on the south side of the inner Fichtelgebirge between Kossine and Hoher Matze and forms the southern cornerstone there. The Gregnitz flows through the place, which is on the state road 2665 Tröstau - Kemnath .

history
Nagel was mentioned for the first time around 1200 in a tithe index of the Reichenbach am Regen monastery . From the 13th century onwards, today's municipal area belonged to the Dukes of Bavaria and in 1329 came to the Palatinate line of the House of Wittelsbach . In a border treaty of 1536, the area around Nagel was divided into two parts. Since then, the larger part has belonged to Bavaria-Palatinate , the smaller with half the village of Reichenbach, which is now part of the municipality, to the Margraviate of Bayreuth . In 1803 the whole village came to the Prussian principality of Bayreuth . In 1810 the municipality became Bavarian .
Population development
Between 1988 and 2018, the population decreased from 1,796 to 1,722 by 74 inhabitants or 4.1%.

After the 2020 election, including the mayor, the municipal council has 13 members:
Theo Bauer (CSU) was mayor of the community of Nagel from September 1994 to April 2020. Helmut Voit (CSU) has been the first mayor since May 1, 2020.
Culture and sights
Churches and figures of saints
- Catholic parish church Maria Rosenkranzkönigin
- Built in 1894/95, renovated in 1986; with late Gothic wooden figure Madonna and Child from 1470; Crucifixion behind the altar, rosary queen on the choir arch
- Trinity Church

Leisure time
To the north of the municipality is the Nagler See , which is popular for leisure and sports. There is a Kneipp facility on its banks ; You can fish in certain places .
“Das Teutsche Paradeiß” is a hiking trail around Nagel, which is divided into three routes, is intended to bring visitors closer to nature and leads through all the districts. It is looked after by the Fichtelgebirgsverein and was financed by the European Union , among other things .
The fragrance and butterfly garden, the time and adventure garden and the house of herbs are well worth seeing in the “herbal village Nagel”.
