Spring version of the Lamitz

The Lamitz is a stream in the Fichtelgebirge in the districts of Wunsiedel and Hof , which, after a 22 km long run, flows approximately northwards near Fattigau , a district of Oberkotzau , from the right to the Saxon Saale .

The origin lies on the eastern slope of the Bergkopf in the Fichtelgebirge in the southern Hallerstein Forest at an altitude of 793  m above sea level. NHN , about 4 km west of the city center of Kirchenlamitz in the district of Wunsiedel . The local association Kirchenlamitz of the Fichtelgebirgsverein installed a granite spring socket with the inscription "LAMITZ-BRUNNEN" here on November 24, 1929 . course

The stream initially runs north through the forest, then on an eastward course north at 792  m above sea level. NHN high Epprechtstein over to the town of Kirchenlamitz, which he crosses. Below it moves a little further north towards Niederlamitz , then it flows through the saddle between Kleines Kornberg (left, up to 678  m above sea level ) and Großem Kornberg (right, 793  m above sea level ), passing in the again wooded valley the Schnepfenmühle and Neuenhammer. Then he changes north into the urban area of Schwarzenbach an der Saale in the neighboring district of Hof, passes his church village Niederlamitz in an almost free corridor, further down touches the settlement area of ​​the city itself. Catchment area

It covers about 69 km² of the Fichtelgebirge and is half forested. The north-eastern watershed separates the Schwesnitz catchment area , the next major tributary of the Franconian Saale. Beyond the south-east and south is that of the Eger , behind the west the Saxon Saale runs above the mouth of the Lamitz.

The highest point is near the Lamitz spring at the south-western tip of the catchment area on the north-eastern secondary summit of 857  m above sea level, only a few meters lower . Surname

The brook name is of Slavic origin. There are different interpretations of the name: Schafweidenbach, Bruchbach. The name of the water was carried over to different places: Kirchenlamitz, Niederlamitz, Niederlamitzerhammer , Martinlamitz , Lamitzmühle .

Economic use

The water power of the Lamitz was used for the mills and hammer mills Hasenmühle, Fuchsmühle, Obere Mühle and Untere Mühle in Kirchenlamitz, Dötschenmühle, Mittelmühle, Oberer Hammer and Unterer Hammer, Niederlamitzerhammer, Schnepfenmühle, Neuenhammer, Lamitzmühle. In 1824 there were around 9,000 pearl mussels in the bed of the Lamitz . In 1914 it was protected as Perlenbach by the royal government of Upper Franconia . At the Schnepfenmühle Lamitz water is diverted for the Förmitz reservoir .
