Quarry pond |
The Waldschwaigsee is a 9.8 hectare large and up to 14.6 meters deep quarry pond west of Karlsfeld , Dachau district , Bavaria .
geography
The lake is located in the Langwieder Moos , a part of the Dachauer Moos , where the Würm flows into the Amper at an altitude of 489 m above sea level. NN . After the glaciations of the last Ice Age had melted, huge amounts of debris were deposited there . The confluence of the two rivers therefore shifted further north over the millennia. The Waldschwaigsee owes its existence to the gravel deposits remaining in the ground .
history
Until about 1945 there was standing Einödhof Forest Schwaige. A gravel pit was built around 1971, the excavation material of which was needed for the construction of federal highway 471 . The resulting pit soon filled with groundwater seepage and precipitation. The materials that were a hindrance to gravel mining, such as root stocks, layers of clay and humus , were pushed together in the center to form a large heap, which has solidified into today's island.
The almost 3,500 m² island has been under landscape protection since 1975 and gives the lake its romantic flair. Wild geese and other water-loving ground-breeders breed on the island .
Hydrology
The lake is usually fed by natural inflows from groundwater and rainfall. Via the Krebsbach , which runs directly to the west and which drains to the Gröbenbach as a receiving water , the water level can also be artificially influenced by means of guide ditches during heavy rain events or periods of drought, so that the water surface varies between almost 10 and 11 hectares.
The water quality is usually excellent. The microbiological monitoring of the lake is carried out by the Dachau health department. The data is collected every 14 days during the bathing season.
use
Today the lake is used for recreation and fish farming. The Karlsfeld fishing association has built its hut on the northern bank . The Karlsfeld Fisher King is determined here every year . The seasonally managed rescue house of the German Lifesaving Society was built there in 1988 . During the bathing season from May 15th to September 15th, animals of any kind are not permitted. The island is designated as a bird sanctuary and may only be entered with special authorization.
Others
In the northeast lies the Karlsfelder See .
