As ground-nesting birds in the are Ornithology bird species referred to their nests create on the ground. The nests of many ground-breeding species are usually very hidden. In addition, the eggs often have a camouflage color .

Ground-nesters do not represent a systematic unit ( taxon ); they can be found in many bird taxa that are not systematically related. These include numerous hen birds , many limikoles , among the songbirds for example the larks and among the birds of prey, for example, the harriers .
