Seduce

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Enticing is a technical term for distracting behavior that is mainly used in ornithological parlance.

A seductive bird tries to attract the attention of the predator through various behaviors and thereby distract from the brood or the chicks : In doing so, it usually acts as if it were seriously injured or even close to dying. These behaviors, often accompanied by plaintive cries, signal that they are easy prey. If the diversionary maneuver succeeds and the intruder is far enough away from the chicks or the nest location, the tempting bird flies up and usually returns to the chick or nest via detours.

Verleite behaviors are particularly pronounced in many ground-breeders , especially in plover- like plovers like the Mornell ringed plover .
