The Moosgraben is a brook near Karlsfeld in the district of Dachau in Bavaria , which flows into the Amper tributary Kalterbach from the left at the municipal boundary to the Feldmoching district of Munich .

description

It was dug in the 1940s as a flood relief for the Karlsfelder See and is not part of the historic north Munich canal system .

The Moosgraben flows from the Karlsfelder See at its northeast corner and then soon runs east-northeast through a settlement of Karlsfeld around the Moosweg in Krenmoos. It then flows through the Schwarzhölzl nature reserve along the tree line to the Feldmoching district of Munich, which is a remainder of the eastern Dachauer Moos . At its eastern edge it joins the Kalterbach from the left after about 2.4 km.

A compensation area was created next to the stream as a retreat for endangered animal and plant species. Among other things, the endangered dragonfly species Helmet Azure Damselfly (Coenagrion mercuriale) can be found there.
