history

timeline

  • first mention of the place as "Otolteshusir" 814 AD in the traditions of the Hochstift Freising
  • The name came from Otolt or Odholt, the eldest of the clan who lived around AD 600 or earlier.
  • The place was built on the Amper tributary Glonn , because there was enough arable land and pastureland to establish a farming existence.
  • Odelzhausen has a castle estate that was built as a castle in 1247. The owners changed frequently, there were aristocratic and bourgeois owners, those who were only interested in the brewery located there and those who were only interested in the associated lands. At the moment there is a hotel and an inn in the castle.
  • In the middle of the 13th century, the old, now impassable Roman road was replaced by the highway from Munich via Dachau, Odelzhausen and on to Friedberg and Augsburg
  • By the end of the Middle Ages, Odelzhausen was no longer a pure farming village: in 1468 it already consisted of eight farms and seven mercenaries (innkeepers, etc.).
  • For the first time in 1440 the name “Hofmark” appears for the village, a Hofmark is a village immunity district whose owners were allowed to exercise lower jurisdictions themselves
  • During the Thirty Years' War there were heavy casualties, the church was burned out and the castle was looted.
Lady Chapel in Taxa
  • The Taxa monastery in the Taxa district was one of the most visited pilgrimage sites in Altbaiern in 1665 (spelling at the time), in 1802 the monastery was razed to the ground, before all of the property was auctioned off, and in 1848 a small chapel was built on the site of the former monastery.
  • There has been a school in Odelzhausen since around 1700.
  • Odelzhausen has had market rights since 1803.
  • On March 1, 1923 Odelzhausen was raised to a parish.
  • In 2014 the anniversary festival year 1200 years Odelzhausen took place.

Incorporations

The formerly independent municipality of Taxa was incorporated on April 1, 1971. Ebertshausen followed on July 1, 1972. On January 1, 1976 Sittenbach was added. Finally, on May 1, 1978, Höfa was incorporated. From May 1, 1978 Odelzhausen was the seat of the administrative association of the same name Odelzhausen and its member; Pfaffenhofen an der Glonn and Sulzemoos also belonged to her . This merger was dissolved by mutual agreement on December 31, 2016, and each municipality has had its own administration since then.

On January 1, 1931, the towns of Roßbach and Sixtnitgern were incorporated into Sittenbach.

Population development

Between 1988 and 2018 the community grew from 3,265 to 5,128 by 1,863 inhabitants or 57.1%.
