Taxa Monastery

The Taxa monastery is a former monastery of the Augustinian barefoot or Augustinian recollects in Taxa ( Odelzhausen ) in Bavaria in the diocese of Munich and Freising.
history
The monastery consecrated to Maria Stern was founded in 1654. Taxa was probably the largest Marian pilgrimage in Bavaria during the Baroque period . The monastery was dissolved in 1802 in the course of secularization and the church and monastery were demolished immediately. The miraculous image came to the parish church of St. Benedikt in Odelzhausen . In 1848 the Maria Stern chapel was built on the site of the former monastery.
From 1667 to 1668 Abraham a Sancta Clara worked as a holiday preacher in the monastery and pilgrimage site of Maria Stern zu Taxa before he was ordered to Vienna due to his increasing popularity.
Egg miracles from taxa
In 1606 the Odelzhauser Hofmarkherr Johann Wilhelm von Hundt is said to have taken a vow in distress that he wanted to build a chapel in honor of Our Lady in case of a rescue. Von Hundt was saved, but he forgot the vow. 10 years later laid a hen on his farm on Easter Monday, a star-egg on which an image of Mary in the halo could be seen. So he was reminded of his promise and started building a chapel. The Hundtsche Henn put the chicken egg on a brand new brick. For the growing stream of pilgrims, the chapel was replaced by a pilgrimage church in 1654 and handed over to the order of the Augustinian barefoot, who built the monastery in 1660.
The golden star covered with an egg is shown in the coat of arms of Odelzhausen and refers to the Maria Stern monastery, which has existed in Taxa since the 17th century.
7 Monasteries Way
The monastery is also a stop on the 7-Klöster-Weg , a cycle path that connects seven existing or former monasteries in the Dachauer and Wittelsbacher Lands . The aim of this 100 km long bike path is to bring the monasteries back to consciousness and make them tangible. The seven monasteries: Monastery Schönbrunn in Röhrmoos , Monastery Weichs , Kloster Indersdorf , Kloster Petersberg , altomünster abbey , Kloster Maria Birnbaum in Sielenbach and monastery taxa.
