As Wittelsbach country is today called Aichach-Friedberg in Bavaria . It borders the city of Augsburg . The Altlandkreis Aichach is the Bavarian ancestral home of the Wittelsbach family , the ruling family that ruled Bavaria for 738 years. The area is located in the administrative district of Swabia , but the old districts of Aichach and Friedberg are historically predominantly part of old Bavaria .

Important places are the cities of Aichach and Friedberg as well as Affing , Aindling , Dasing , Kissing , Mering and Pöttmes .

Language and dialect

A special feature of the region is its dialect, which includes the Baier dialect and Swabian dialect components. The predominantly Upper Bavarian pronunciation of the words is typical here. In most verbs, however, the 2nd person singular is followed by the typical Swabian "-sch", so "kann" is pronounced "kannsch", a sign of the mixed area between Bavaria and Swabia . The Altlandkreis Aichach has belonged to the administrative district of Swabia since the regional reform in 1972. The village of Aichach was the 1817 from Augsburg ruled Oberdonau circle slammed, the forerunner of today's governmental district of Swabia. The Altlandkreis Friedberg belongs - after various interludes ( Isarkkreis ) - since 1944 to the administrative district of Swabia. The settlement border between Baiern and Alemanni running along the Lech is also reflected here in the local dialect ( Lechrainerisch ). The historical affiliation to old Bavaria is strongly emphasized, especially as a trademark for tourism.
