Porto Valtravaglia is a municipality in the province of Varese in the Lombardy region .
geography
Porto Valtravaglia is located on the east bank of Lake Maggiore , between Luino and Laveno and covers an area of around 15 km². The fractions Ligurno, Muceno, Musadino, San Michele, Cascina Profarè, Cascina Bassa, Monte Pian Nave, Monte della Colonna, Monte Ganna, Domo, Torre and Casa Piano Croce belong to Porto Valtravaglia. The neighboring communities are Brezzo di Bedero , Brissago-Valtravaglia , Casalzuigno , Castelveccana , Duno , Ghiffa (VB) and Oggebbio (VB)
Porto Valtravaglia is less touristically important than other places in the Maggiore area. The place has a port that calls at three times a day in regular service . In the past, Porto Valtravaglia was economically important because of the glass industry located here .
history
A human presence in Valtravaglia (between Porto and Caldè) is documented as early as the Iron Age . The Romans crossed the Valtravaglia before Emperor Augustus , later the imperial militias also came here.
