The municipality is located about 10.5 kilometers south-southeast of Varese on the Olona and covers an area of 3.88 km² . The districts of Castel Seprio and Vico Seprio and the hamlet of Cascina Brughera belong to Castelseprio. The tenor forms the western municipal boundary . The neighboring municipalities are Cairate , Carnago , Gornate-Olona and Lonate Ceppino .

Castelseprio is one of an important archaeological site in northern Italy with European significance. The church of Santa Maria foris Portas , which belongs to the monastery complex of Torba , has its origins in the 7th / 8th centuries. Century.
