Ferno is an Italian commune ( comune ) in the province of Varese in the Lombardy region .

geography

The municipality is located about 23 kilometers south-southwest of Varese on the Parco naturale lombardo della Valle del Ticino and covers an area of ​​8.51  km² . The San Macario faction belongs to Ferno . The neighboring municipalities are Lonate Pozzolo , Samarate , Somma Lombardo and Vizzola Ticino .

The municipality is located directly at the southern end of the Milan-Malpensa airport . Together with the neighboring municipality of Lonate Pozzolo , there has been a train station on the railway line from Busto Arsizio to Terminal 1 of Malpensa Airport ( Malpensa Express ) since 2009 .
