Carnago (in the local dialect Carnog ) is an Italian commune ( comune ) in the province of Varese in the Lombardy region .

geography

The municipality is located about 9.5 kilometers south of Varese and covers an area of ​​54  km² . The Rovate faction belongs to Carnago . The Tenore and the Arno flow through the municipality in the catchment area of ​​the Olona . The neighboring municipalities are Cairate , Caronno Varesino , Cassano Magnago , Castelseprio , Gornate-Olona , Oggiona con Santo Stefano and Solbiate Arno .

history

According to legend, the roots of the municipality are around the year 585, when the Lombard king Authari was founded .

Attractions

  • Provost church of San Martino, mentioned 13th century. In 1620 it became the pilgrimage church of Madonna dei Miracoli. Restored in 1855 by the architect Giacomo Moraglia; it preserves an oil painting depicting Nascitia di Maria together with the work Presentazione di Gesù al tempio by the painter Biagio Bellotti from 1765–1770.
  • Church of San Rocco, built in 1524, restored at the end of the 19th century, with fresco Cristo Crocefisso con Maria Addolorata e Santa Caterina d'Alessandria (17th century).
  • Madonna di Stribiana church, built in 1866.
  • Church of San Bartolomeo in the Rovate fraction , mentioned in the 15th century (parish church 1582), consecrated by Cardinal Alfredo Ildefonso Schuster in 1961.
  • Apartment with a fresco Madonna and Child in the Solaro district (early 20th century), restored in 1994.
