In 1972 archaeological discoveries were made in the area at the foot of the hill of Nizzolina Alta, suggesting the existence of a small cemetery from 300 BC. The village was first mentioned in 1072. In 1630 the plague also struck Marnate; for this occasion the hospital was built in the middle of the valley.
