Brinzio is an Italian commune ( comune ) in the province of Varese in the Lombardy region .

geography

The municipality is located about nine kilometers north-northwest of Varese on the Parco regional Campo dei Fiori and belongs to the Comunità montana Valli del Verbano . Brinzio covers an area of ​​6.41  km² . The neighboring municipalities are Bedero Valcuvia , Castello Cabiaglio , Induno Olona , Rancio Valcuvia , Valganna and Varese.

history

The place is first mentioned in a document in 979. The village was ruled by two consoli , a dean and a few deputies, also called vicini . The stability of the consular order and the vicinia is documented in further correspondence that goes back to the end of the 16th century and the beginning of the 17th century; in particular, on April 6, 1645, the presence in Cuvio of the consul Giovanni Maria de Vanino is attested, who took part in Stefano and Pietro Cotta's takeover of the feud of Val Cuvia . In 1751 the village was added to the compartment of the Duchy of Milan , district of Pieve di Valcuvia .
