Sangiano is a municipality ( comune ) in the province of Varese in the Lombardy region .

geography

The municipality is located about 20 kilometers west-northwest of Varese and about 2.5 kilometers east of the east bank of Lake Maggiore and covers an area of ​​2.2  km² . The neighboring municipalities are Caravate , Laveno-Mombello and Leggiuno .

history

Sangiano was mentioned for the first time in the statute of the roads and waters of the County of Milan of 1346 among the places. In 1491 the Duke of Milan Gian Galeazzo Sforza Sangiano and the nearby towns of Leggiuno, Bosco and Mombello enfeoffed his hunting prefect Francesco Cremona. The feud then passed to the Trivulzio family .
