Ternate municipality in the province of Varese

Ternate is a northern Italian municipality ( comune ) in the province of Varese in Lombardy .

geography

The municipality is located about 11 kilometers west-southwest of Varese on Lake Comabbio and covers an area of ​​5.1  km² . The neighboring municipalities are Biandronno , Cazzago Brabbia , Comabbio , Inarzo , Travedona -months and Varano Borghi .

history

In September 1879, Napoleon Borghi discovered a prehistoric settlement, a mound of earth consisting of a multitude of stakes from 70 cm to 2.20 m high on an area of ​​8,000 m², where he found 300 flint knives, 500 ceramic shards, coals, pointed wood and a 1 , 14 m long chestnut arch with two flint tips and an arrow with a flint tip.

The Roman civilization in Ternate is confirmed by the presence of some necropolises outside the city, notably in Longori or Longarolo, near the deserted road between Travedona and Ternate.
