Danshaku Oka Ichinosuke ( Japanese 岡 市 之 助 ; born March 28, 1860 in Hagi , Chōshū-han , Japan ; † July 20, 1916 ) was a Lieutenant General of the Imperial Japanese Army and Minister of the Army .

Life

Oka Ichinosuke was born in Hagi in Chōshū-han, today's Yamaguchi Prefecture , in March 1860 . In 1881 he completed the fourth year of the Army Officer School and in 1888 the fourth year of the Army University . He served successively as the deputy commander of the 8th Infantry Brigade and as the commander of the 20th Infantry Regiment. During the First Sino-Japanese War he was Chief of Staff of the 1st Division .

After the war, Oka served in various administrative and staff positions in the Army General Staff . During the Russo-Japanese War he worked in the Office of Military Affairs. In 1905 he was promoted to major general . Following this, he commanded the 27th and 29th Infantry Brigade one after the other before being promoted to Lieutenant General in February 1913. In 1913 he was the commanding officer of the 3rd Division .

On April 16, Prime Minister Ōkuma Shigenobu appointed him Minister of the Army in his second cabinet. On March 30, 1916, he resigned from this post for health reasons. Immediately before his death in July of the same year, he was raised to the rank of Danshaku according to the Japanese nobility system of Kazoku .
