The municipality is located about 15 kilometers northwest of Varese and belongs to the Comunità montana Valli del Verbano . It covers an area of ​​5.05  km² . Caravate includes the Cadè , Canton Chiedo , Canton d'Oro , Cà Stecco , Castello , Fornace Farsani , Fornazze , Monte San Giano , Pozzei , San Clemente , Santa Maria del Sasso , Stallazzo and Virolo fractions . The neighboring municipalities are Besozzo , Cittiglio , Gemonio , Laveno-Mombello , Leggiuno and Sangiano .
