Saltrio is a municipality ( comune ) in the province of Varese in the Lombardy region .

geography

The municipality covers an area of ​​3.47 km² and is located about 11 kilometers northeast of Varese on the border with Switzerland ; which is part of the Comunità Montana del Piambello . The Giessbach Ripartino flows through the municipality . The neighboring communities are Clivio , Mendrisio (CH-TI) and Viggiù .

history

The Saltriosaurus is named after the community (although the name is not recognized). 1,996 fossils have this theropod from the Sinemurian that the Allosaurus , found similar in a quarry near the village.
